  1. Great episode again, and Steven Schapansky is such an awesome Number 3!

When Channel 4 showed The Prisoner in 1984 (my first viewing), they showed Many Happy Returns as ep. 2, which is of course crazy, and it caused a lot of controversy in Prisoner fandom at the time, but it meant that it made an even more massive impact on me, as the second ep., straight after Arrival, which I had of course also loved! As it happens, I think one of the reasons that we do need Chimes as early as possible in the run is so that there is some real distance before Many Happy Returns. We have to be, “Oh, my goodness, it really looks like he has actually escaped!” (which he has). And you can’t have Many Happy Returns too late either, especially since we have Don’t Forsake to get in there also. So, FWIW, I think the original order is kinda perfect: Chimes #2 / Many Happy Returs # 7 / Do Not Forsake #13 / Fall Out #17 — the eps. where he is, or appears to be, back in London, are evenly spaced. You just couldn’t cluster those.

BTW, you defo have to visit Number 1, Buckingham Place! It is barely changed from 1967, and kinda thrilling to visit (unlike some of the London locations, like the camera shop in Do Not Forsake, in Southampton Row, which has gone).

Looking forward to the next few eps! I’m watching each ep. now before listening.
